Ramudden reduces emissions and improves safety with AI from Buddywise

Leading traffic and construction safety company Ramudden announced today that it entered into a long-term partnership with Swedish AI and computer vision company Buddywise, to automate their Work Zone Road Safety Inspections (WZRSI).

Transportation accounts for a third of Sweden’s emissions each year and is a focus area for Ramudden Group’s ambition to reach net zero emissions. Each year, Ramudden conducts up to 20,000 WZRS Inspections, in Sweden alone, and with the new AI-based inspections the company believes it can save up to 70 tonnes of carbon dioxide per year.

Ramudden’s core business is planning and establishment of safe work zones for infrastructure projects. Recurring inspections of work safety zones involves checking for potential deviations such as signs, fences and barriers not being in the correct location. This is an essential element in maintaining safety around any work site. Ramudden is also seeing clear signs of strengthened requirements from the Swedish Transport Administration.

The company is now initiating the process of automating these inspections by introducing the tech company Buddywise’s solution. Through cameras and AI analysis of images, Buddywise’s system can continuously detect deviations in the intended design of the work zone and report this to Ramudden’s employees. This means that visits to worksites only need to be made when an action should be taken and with full understanding of what equipment needs to be brought in. The company estimates this can reduce the number of miles driven by up to 540,000 per year, while improving safety for all involved.

“The use of Buddywise systems, in addition to emissions reduction, creates valuable data. It allows us to more easily analyse trends regarding when and why deviations occur. This enables better planning of actual visits and potentially becomes the basis for product improvements.”
